The Diagnostic Process
Though there are common problems that can occur with any given computer, determining the source of any specific problem or fault isn’t always as easy as taking a quick look or running a utility.
We are often asked to look at computers that are performing poorly in Windows or other applications. Though we might have a few guesses as to the source, without running a number of tests to get a complete picture of your computer’s hardware and software health, any work we might do could be counterproductive if we don’t have the whole picture. For instance, if we attempt to reinstall your operating system without taking into account that your hard drive has bad sectors, we might find ourselves struggling against a malfunctioning drive that, no matter the effort, will never perform adequately again.
In light of the very complex and delicate nature of computers, we prefer to run a full hardware and software diagnostic regimen before we perform any repair work. This way you’ll know exactly what is causing your current issue and be made aware of any possible future issues. The diagnosis is intended for you to make the most informed decision when it comes to your computer repair. After we finish the diagnosis, we will contact you via phone or email to give you the results. From there, we’ll be able to give you a complete picture of your computer’s repair needs.
We do ask a $49 diagnostics fee to get started, but keep in mind this will apply towards the cost of labor on your repair. Also, keep in mind our diagnostics is all inclusive. Where some competitors will charge you the second they have to open up your computer to investigate further, our diagnostics fee covers disassembling your computer if it becomes necessary to determine the source of the problem, and reassembling your computer should you not want to proceed with our recommended repair.
We diagnose computers on a first-come, first-serve basis. On average, depending on the nature of the computer’s problem, we can get back to you within 2-3 days of the check in. Should you need the computer back sooner than that, we offer an express service.
Our express service moves you to the front of the queue so that we start working on the computer the very second it is checked in. Customers who purchase the express service can expect a call back within 24 hours. The cost of the express service is $35 in addition to the standard $49 diagnostic fee. However, unlike the standard diagnostic fee, the express service fee will not apply to the total cost of repair.
